East Cambridgeshire was well noted for being the place in which many archaeological findings were discovered between the years of 1884 and 1994. Archaeological finds from the Iron Age, Bronze Age and Stone Age have all been found within the district over this one hundred year period in which the search went on. Although some of these historical items were retrieved from sites in the north of Cambridge and other surrounding areas, such as Devil’s Dyke, the majority of the items from the Bronze Age were discovered in East Cambridgeshire. After these findings, most of the items went in to the Moyse’s Hall Museum, which is located in Bury St. Edmunds however; there some of the pieces also went to the University of Cambridge Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
There are many towns and settlements which are located within the district of East Cambridgeshire, including the city of Ely, the town of Soham and around thirty six other settlements and villages.
